Getting to know Alayna Fischer

Name:
Alayna Fischer

Where are you From: I am from Madison, Wisconsin

Years at Camp: 3

Position at Camp: Cabin Specialist

Why did you decide to work at camp this summer?

I decided to work at camp this summer because it has become my home away from home. It’s a place where I can be authentically myself and reflect that upon the campers to inspire them to do the same.

What are you looking to learn from this summer?

I am looking forward to learning more about myself this summer. Something I have realized is that though being a counselor it is my job to make a difference in the campers’ lives, the truth is that they make such a difference on mine too. Each summer I find I have a new passion or hobby that I learned from my campers. They leave me with a feeling that I can do anything, as without them, I would not wield responsibility and importance. I know my campers will allow me to grow more this summer and I look forward to doing it!

What do you think you can bring to camp this summer which will impact our campers?

Something I can bring to camp this summer is my ability to see the fun in any situation. I believe that these campers deserve to have fun and to not take everything so seriously. I want to make each camper feel like there is something to look forward to each day.

What are you looking forward to most about this summer?

I am looking forward to seeing all my camp friends again. Truly, the people you meet at camp are some of the best people you’ll ever know. I look forward to seeing them as well as meeting all the new counselors and forming connections with each one.

Tell us an interesting fact/story about yourself!

A fun fact about myself is that I am a huge traveler! Not only have I moved over 20 times, but I also cannot seem to stay in one place for too long. I love to take trips as often as I can, whether it be to a different country, or just to a town a few hours away. One of the reasons I keep coming back to camp is also because of the location! I love that I get to leave my state for a few months and come to New York for the summer!
