Staff FAQs

Can I visit New York City on a day off?

Absolutely, it’s only 90 miles away and camp will provide transportation on your day off to the local train or bus which can take you directly to the city for the day.

Is it difficult to get to camp if I am traveling from across the country or even overseas?

Actually, it happens to be very easy! Don’t worry, camp will provide step-by-step instructions from the moment you get off the airplane until you are met by one of our hospitality staff who will welcome you to camp after your journey.

Where do most of the staff come from and how many total staff do you have?

At Iroquois Springs, we are lucky to have 250 staff from around the globe. Our staff recruiters hand select the finest applicants to work with our campers and attract staff members from nearby such as New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and from across the country too…in fact, we even have staff who join us from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and around the world.

When you look for staff to work at camp, what exactly are you looking for?

First and foremost, we are looking for genuine folks who have a passion for working with children and are committed to seeing young people succeed. Of course, we are also looking to attract staff who have varied skills and can help teach or lead different activity areas in camp.

Do we get time-off while at camp?

Of course you do, but working at camp is a full-time responsibility as campers are in our care 24/7. As a staff member, you will receive 5 days-off during the summer, a few nights a week you will not be on-duty and wherever possible, a period (approx. 1 hour) each day unstructured.

Can I work-out / stay in shape while at camp?

Of course you can!  Camp is a very active environment and we encourage you to take part in all activities with your campers.  In addition, we have a state of the art Fitness Center that houses our Weights & Cardio Studio, Spin Room and Functional Training Space, so if it’s CrossFit, Spin, Traditional Gym or just a good workout your after, we have it all!

Where will I sleep while working at Iroquois Springs?

All cabin specialists and activity specialists sleep in a modern cabin with approximately 12 campers and 2-3 other staff members. All cabins are newly renovated with full electricity, bathrooms with showers, spacious decks and more. Adult staff such as group leaders and activity directors live in private or semi-private hotel-style rooms with bathrooms.

Is it easy to stay in touch with family and friends outside of Iroquois Springs while working at camp?

Camp is a place to “unplug” and it’s important that campers and staff understand this policy as it relates to the core values of what Iroquois Springs is all about. On your time-off, staff will have access to the Staff Lounge which is equipped with Wi-Fi and multiple computers so you can stay in touch with family and friends and check in on current events and more.

I am trying to decide between an internship or working at camp, can you help me decide?

We may be a little biased here, but camp truly provides an environment to learn “real-life skills.” Nowhere else will you find a community that is so fast paced, exciting, provides challenges and rewards equally for staff as it does for campers and fosters relationships that will last a lifetime. The life skills learned at camp are transferrable to almost any situation you may find yourself in, this is a once in a lifetime experience!
