Getting to Know Grace Karney

Name:
 Grace Karney

Where are you from: Oak Harbor, Washington

Years at I.S.: 2

What is your favorite memory from last summer?
This is such a hard question because there are so many memories that stand out, but I think my all-time favorite would be every morning when we had girl’s side lineup. The lineup was always such an incredible way to start the day and bond with all of girl’s side. It made everyone feel so connected.

What did you learn from your experience last summer?
Last summer at camp really taught me about the importance of being flexible. There were so many times where my co’s and I had planned for one thing, and then something else entirely different happened. You learn to adapt to whatever situation you are given, and to really just go with the flow.

What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming summer?
I am really looking forward to seeing all the great friends I made at camp last summer. I also can’t wait to see the girls from the bunk I had last year and how much they have grown.

What advice do you have for staff who are going to be at Iroquois Springs for the first time this summer?
The campers reflect your attitude, so the best advice I would have is to always take on tasks and activities with a positive outlook. Your enthusiasm is infectious, and if your campers see you always having a good time and giving everything your all then they will too.

As a returner, how are you looking to grow this summer as a counselor?
I am looking to continue to build on everything I learned last year and become the best role model for the kids that I can possibly be.
