THE POEM

Infinity, the unlimited amount of time or space.
And carries on without leaving a trace
It goes on forever, no limit or end,
Just like the love for all of our friends.
Although these four days were merely a fraction of time,
The memories we made will still be spoken of in 2009.
Six weeks gone, and now a year to go,
Still thinking of camp while covered by snow.
Infinity sums up our amount of spirit in one word,
And even today our screaming voices are heard.
We wish good luck to Golden Phoenix because no matter
which team will win or lose,
We will still be one camp, and that’s what we will always choose.
As timeless as this night, Infinity Blue will never back down.
Our spirits are strong even in Rock Hill, this tiny town
Camp lasts for life; you’ll someday see how these memories
last for infinity.

THE ESSAY

Join me on a trip back to 1655, where John Wallis is brainstorming ideas for a new mathematical symbol for infinity.

Suddenly, he figured out a genius idea. The symbol is a drawing of the number eight, which is turned 90 degrees.

As time went on, other cultures took the original symbol, and adapted its meaning. The Greek tribes were the first ones to understand the meaning of the word infinity. They viewed the difference of the ‘potentially infinite’ from the ‘actual infinite’.

Throughout the years the early Indians came up with the new ideas. The Isha Upanishad of the Yajurveda “If you remove a part from infinity or add a part to infinity, still what remains is infinity”.

Today, the Iroquois Springs summer of 2008 Blue Team has COMPLETELY REDEFINED infinity. The transformation of infinity does affect Golden Phoenix in that we wish them an infinite amount of luck in this competition. Blue has infinite amounts of spirit, infinite amounts of pride, and infinite amounts of love for their team and this camp.

We do not follow infinity.. WE ARE INFINITY BLUE!!!!
