THE POEM

The Sapphire signifies beauty and strength. A strength that is strong enough to create friends and memories.

Beauty that we can share with everybody, the Sapphire is one of the hardest stones to break. Every part down to the smallest atom is dense and working the same way; every camper on the blue team is fighting their hardest as a whole. Just like a Sapphire, we will stay together no matter the pain or weather.

The Sapphire is also called “The Stone of Destiny” so it is our destiny to win color war. Since sapphire is associated with Venus, which is named after the Goddess of Love. This shows how not only does the blue team love each other, but also the gold team and camp as a whole.

The Sapphire shines bright like very few, the powerful light that will be winning tonight is blue.

THE ESSAY

By Payge Kerman and Megan Lewis

Since the beginning of time, Gold has prevailed widely throughout the world. In Japan, Gold symbolized prosperity and success; in Russia, Gold was the icon of domination and power; most importantly, the sun, which shines brightly and constantly, displayed the consistency of the Gold. However, there have been a few moments in time to brandish the takeover of the Sapphire and its defeat of the Gold.

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, a young man put an ancient Archadian Gold coin into a sapphire colored lake, hoping and praying the coin would remain afloat and overtake the water’s strong gravitational forces and unbreakable surface. Of course, Gold, being the densest metal sunk, leaving being only a trace of a few ripples. The diminutive ripples and the sinking of the precious gold coin represents the falling of the golden empire and the dominance of the beautiful and mighty sapphire.

Years later, a young woman noticed gray skies clouding around the brilliant and bold sun. She leaned down, picked up a small stone, no bigger than the size of a dime, and hoisted it with all her might into the clouds. When the rock returned back to the ground, the woman, observant as ever, noticed a hole in the clouds allowing the sapphire sky to preponderate. Craving and thirsting for more of the sapphire, the woman continued to heave pebbles into the sky until all she could see was the sapphire sky, with just a small gold touch right in the middle. Once again, the sapphire had usurped the mighty forces of the gold.

Fast forward to biblical times. Moses, a wise and courageous man, received the Ten Commandments on a sapphire tablet, chosen especially by God because it was the most precious of all the stones in the world. As the sapphire’s gleam shone only because of the rays of the sun, the color of the sapphire changed, adding just a hint of gold to pay its dues to the sun that allowed the sapphire to shine brighter than ever. By God’s selection of the sapphire for the tablet, the reign of the sapphire in the religious world began, making it the most sacred stone.

Thousands of years later, in the year 2011, the reign continues. Sapphire’s dominance began with a pool of water, moved quickly to a vast and mysterious sky, and then to one of the most important moments in religious history. From the beginning of time to the present day, sapphire has dominated the ascendency of the gold with strength and serenity. As the primarily blue stone supplies the base for our team, for religious groups, and for incredible stories, we, the Blue team, hope that our cheers and ideas, our compassion and confidence, and our power and flare, will allow many teams to have the same opportunity to thrive and succeed. Japan, Russia, and of course, Iroquois Springs now all use Sapphire to symbolize power and dominance, the bonding of many people, and prosperity and success for all. And as the Golden sun rises into the Sapphire sky, both teams come together to witness the most beautiful bonding ever to be seen.
