Summer 2022… Here We Come!

Our 2022 Leadership Staff!

June has finally arrived, and that means camp is just around the corner!  After what felt like a winter that never ended here in the Northeast, we can, at last, see warmer days ahead as we prepare for summer 2022 at Iroquois Springs. As the IS crew gets camp ready for opening day, our families are gathering their camp gear and packing their trunks for a fantastic summer in Rock Hill. We couldn’t be more excited to see our returning campers and welcome all of our new camp family.

We recently hosted New Family Orientation to kick off the camp season.  The turnout was fantastic, the weather cooperated, and new campers had the opportunity to tour the campgrounds, enjoy a delicious bar-b-que lunch, meet their group leaders, and get to know other new campers in their division. While the campers were off having fun, parents had a chance to hear about “a day in the life” of an IS camper and how to best prepare themselves and their campers for this new and exciting journey.  It was a great day that reinforced how beneficial and important a camp experience is.

In addition to emotionally preparing campers for this journey, we understand there is a long and comprehensive packing list that families must also prepare. We want everyone to feel comfortable and have everything they need, but camp is rarely about the things that come out of the trunk. Camp is about the people, the friendships, the new and exciting challenges, and the opportunities to grow physically, socially and emotionally.  We encourage families to stick to the packing list so that campers can manage their space and focus on getting outside and having fun.  Items like decorative pillows are fantastic, but don’t pack so many that your camper doesn’t have room on the bed 😊. As was said at New Family Orientation, we do not accept “trunk gifts” (what could be a better gift than camp itself) or care packages.  We provide everything a camper needs to have a great, safe, and successful summer. We do not want to create competition in the bunk or make it more difficult for parents at home who would have to run all over town trying to come up with creative gifts to send to camp.  We look forward to everyone being in the great outdoors enjoying every moment with camp friends.

We are confident that campers, both returning and new, will grow from their time at Iroquois Springs, and have memories that last a lifetime.  We hope June is a wonderful month as another school year comes to an end. Good luck on exams, enjoy graduation celebrations, and get ready for an amazing summer!!!  We will see you soon.
